Game Changing Updates to Gamification
We’re excited to announce major updates to our gamification system that will give you even more control over user experience and game performance. Added features include:
- Ability to set start and end dates for challenges
- Filtering of leaderboards by tags
- Language customization for challenges
- Rewards for referrals who perform specific site actions
In addition to gamification improvements, we've added real-time commenting and designed new simple share and share bar UIs that are completely optimized for mobile.
Gamification: New Features
Start and End Dates for Challenges
It’s now easier than ever to set start and end dates for challenges, enabling gamification to work better with your marketing strategy. For instance, marketers can further incentivize desired user actions by running challenges in conjunction with promotions. After a challenge expires, users will stop earning points for the particular challenge but can still display the badges they earned.
Filtering Leaderboards by Tags
We’ve received tons of feedback from customers who want to filter leaderboards according to their site’s content categories, allowing users to build reputation within those categories. With the new actionAttribute tagging, you will now be able to filter leaderboards and other plugins using the content tags you pass when users take certain actions on your site. For instance, a TV network can filter a leaderboard of users interacting with a particular show.
Game Challenge Localization
Now you can engage users from across the world by creating a single game to be deployed across your sites in different languages and locations. Contact your Client Services Manager to get started with custom text translations.
Rewards for Referrals’ Actions
We know it’s often not enough to reward users for simply referring another user to your site, particularly if these referred users never perform any valuable actions. Thus, it’s now possible to hold off on rewarding users for referring new users until those referrals take specific actions on your site, such as leaving a comment or sharing content across their social channels. You can choose from a list of default actions or create your own custom actions to measure.
Mobile Web-Optimized Share Bar and Simple Share UI

We understand that optimizing your website for mobile environments is an increasingly high priority. Last year, we released a mobile web-optimized UI for comments. This week, we’re proud to announce a mobile web-optimized simple share and share bar UI for a better mobile experience for your users.
Real-time Commenting

Increase engagement with your site’s content by allowing commenters to view and respond to each other’s comments in real time. You can choose to set the default to real-time updates or real-time counts: the former allows new comments to be pulled into the site in real-time and the latter maintains an active comment count as new comments are posted so users have the option of refreshing the page to view the updated comment threads.
